Megadeth’s Bassist Ellefson Opening Cafe in Minnesota

If you like your music and your coffee dark, then this news bit might excite you.

Minnesota-based fans of Megadeth will soon be able to buy bassist Dave Ellefson’s Ellefson Coffee Co. whole bean, roasted coffees from Ellefson’s first cafe. What started off as a web-based company has grown into a booming business.

Ellefson coffee is roasted by fellow metal musician Paul Waggoner, who plays guitar for Between the Buried and Me. The beans used in these roasts come from Nicaragua. Waggoner, who was introduced to Ellefson by a mutual friend, roasts greens for Ellefson Coffee Co. that he gets from his partnerships with Coffee Shrub and Cafe Imports. These greens are roasted in a 5-kilo U.S. Roaster Corp machine and packaged into the blends that Ellefson has been successfully selling online.

Now, Ellefson is partnering with Susan Reiter, a coffeehouse owner from Jackson, Minnesota. Reiter’s shop, Coffee Choices, was founded in 2004 and memorabilia from Megadeth in its “Museum of Deth.” The cafe has been undergoing a overhaul as part of its re-branding endeavor with Ellefson and is scheduled to open this week.

Reiter is excited to revitalize her business with this new venture and believes that hosting Ellefson Coffee Co. blends will be just the rejuvenation Coffee Choices needs. Reiter plans on keeping her trusty machines, including a La Cimbali M29 espresso machine, as an integral part of her daily business. The recent restyling of the cafe’s interior design, however, reflects the partnership with Ellefson. Customers will be able to check out Megadeth memorabilia while sipping on a delicious brew.
