Researchers have found that you are not likely to cause harm to your health if you consume four cups of coffee per day. Ninety percent of people consume fewer than four cups of coffee per day.

Scientists also found that it is safe to consume up to 400 milligrams of coffee per day. This is equivalent to the amount of caffeine that is in four cups of coffee. Keep in mind that consuming caffeine probably will not benefit your health. However, it likely will not harm your health.

It is safe for pregnant women to consume caffeine. However, they should limit their consumption to less than 300 milligrams of caffeine per day. This 400 mg limit is nothing new. It was set by the Food and Drug Administration back in 2003.

Consuming more than 400 mg of caffeine per day can increase the risk of high blood pressure, depression, anxiety and sperm damage. You are not necessarily putting your health at risk by having an extra cup of coffee, but you do not want to make a habit of doing that. Researchers also found that people today are consuming more caffeine today than they were 10 years ago. The results of the study have been published in a journal called Food and Chemical Toxicology.
